Maternity Care Calendar: The BC Women's Maternity Care Calendar and Guidelines
A checklist has been developed by Drs. Stefan Grzybowski and Colleen Kirkham to better support clinicians providing prenatal care, and as a foundation for prenatal education.
The Pregnancy Planning Guide is a revolutionary tool that is now available to women who are pregnant or trying to conceive. This guide is an adaptation of the wheel or rotational calendar used by doctors and midwives in their offices. It will give you valuable information about the things that are important to consider before you get pregnant. By turning the wheel, you can see when you are most likely to get pregnant in each menstrual cycle and when your baby would be born if you do conceive.

Pregnancy Screening - First Trimester Screening (FTS) has been widely accepted as a highly effective form of prenatal risk assessment throughout the world. Ultrasound is used to obtain measurements of the fetal neck (also known as nuchal translucency or NT) and a determination of the nasal bone (or NB). The ultrasound also determines fetal anatomy, fluid, placenta location, and other important factors, including establishing or confirming due dates. The use of screening blood work (known as PAPP-A and hCG) is also used.
FTS can determine risks of chromosome abnormalities in a non-invasive way and detection rates are 88% (NT, with hCG/PAPP-A) up to 95% (with the addition of nasal bone determination). Non-invasive testing may diminish the need for women to have invasive screening tests such as amniocentesis or Chorionic villus sampling (CVS).
